1st mini album ‘Baby Monster’ released today

YG Entertainment has re-established the system of Yang Hyun-seok as general producer and Yang Min-seok as sole representative, and has thrown a bet with the new girl group ‘BABYMONSTER’.
According to YG on the 1st, Baby Monster released their 1st mini album ‘BABYMONS7ER’ at midnight on this day.
Baby Monster consists of 7 members from 3 countries. The members are Ahyun (17), Rami (17), and Laura (16) of Korean nationality, Luca (22) and Asa (18) of Japanese nationality, and Parita (19) and Chiquita (15) of Thai nationality. The average age is 17.7 years.
Before the release of this album, they had already released two digital singles, including ‘BATTER UP’ and ‘Stuck In The Middle’. However, Ahyeon was missing from these two song promotions. She was the face of YG and a member who became a hot topic due to her resemblance to Jenny, a member of K-pop’s flagship girl group ‘Blackpink’, but she was excluded right before her debut due to health issues and was actually weakened. However, since Ahyun, the center of the team that can build a fandom, is joining for the first time and working, YG considers this day to be the real start of Baby Monster.
The title song is ‘SHEESH’. It is a hip-hop genre with a dark atmosphere that incorporates YG’s identity. YG explained, “The combination of the baroque-style piano melody and magnificent synthesizer sound creates an overwhelming feeling.” The message is also YG-like. YG added, “We sing with a bold ambition to surprise the world.”
Baby Monster is a girl group released by YG 7 years after Blackpink. YG’s decision appears to be to pay homage to and follow the color of Blackpink, which has become the representative girl group of the current K-pop scene, rather than avoiding it.

Unlike the previous two singles, Baby Monster is carrying out aggressive activities with the release of this mini album. It presents a variety of content, including appearances on music broadcasts. The first fan meeting tour spanning five regions in Asia and a performance at Japan’s largest music festival ‘Summer Sonic’ were scheduled. We plan to release a full-length album in the fall.
YG’s new group is the first for both men and women in three years since ‘Treasure’ in 2020. Baby Monster is considered a team that will become a turning point in YG’s future. The four members of Blackpink only contract with YG for team activities, and are carrying out their solo activities through independent labels. YG announced that Blackpink’s future activities will be detailed this year, but as the four members are already accelerating their solo activities such as albums, it is expected that it will take some time to coordinate team activities.
