Eli Ben Shem, the chairman of Yad Labanim, was interviewed on Keshet 12’s morning program regarding the growing concern over the lack of respect for Memorial Day ceremonies. He spoke about the recent desecration of Yoni Netanyahu’s grave, but the Ministry of Defense claimed the stains were due to a red stone placed on the grave as part of a memorial project, and not from vandalism.

Ben Shem shared that bereaved families request no politicians attend Memorial Day ceremonies. He suggested only the President and Chief of Staff attend, and that politicians should not be in attendance.

The Ministry of Defense responded to Ben Shem’s statement about the desecration of Yoni Netanyahu’s grave, saying it was not vandalism, but rather the result of a memorial project with a red heart placed on the grave. The red paint was cleaned off shortly after.

Eli Ben Shem, chairman of the Yad Labanim organization, was interviewed this morning (Tuesday) on Keshet 12’s morning program, and addressed the growing concern regarding the lack of respect for the upcoming Memorial Day ceremonies, in the shadow of the protest against the legal reform. He even revealed that the grave of the late Yoni Netanyahu , the prime minister’s brother, profaned two weeks ago. However, the Ministry of Defense claimed that the grave was soiled as a result of a red stone that was placed on it as part of a memorial project and was not vandalized.

“No one knows yet, not even the Netanyahu family, but two weeks ago they desecrated the grave of Yoni, an Israeli hero who fell for the sanctification of God in Entebbe. Where have we come to?” he noted.

He told about the many requests that come from bereaved families, in preparation for the upcoming Memorial Day: “Every day we receive dozens of requests to the Yad Labanim organization from families who ask that there be no politicians this year. Between families whose children fell together there are wars, struggles, posts against each other. Families are torn apart, it’s a terrible tear.”

He also added that “just as the President and the Chief of Staff arrive at the Western Wall on Memorial Day, it may be necessary to adopt this at Mount Herzl and the cemeteries. Let the president and the chief of staff arrive. I am also anxious for the politicians, in their honor.”

The Ministry of Defense on the statement of the chairman of Yad Labanim in the GLA according to which the grave of the late Yoni Netanyahu was vandalized: “We are talking about people who placed a red heart on the grave as part of a memorial project, and that red stone slightly stained the grave with red paint, in what may appear to be spilling Red drops on the grave. The Ministry of Defense clarifies that it is not a matter of vandalizing the tomb and the red paint was cleaned a short time later.
