An urban evening with Yoni Rechter and the Israeli Vocal Ensemble, conducted by Yuval Ben Ozer, will take place this coming Saturday, March 19, at the Rappaport Hall. The concert center performs episodes from “Musical Pictures from the Fathers’ Fathers” – a new and intriguing work written by Rechter, which premiered as part of the “Oud Festival” last November with the participation of the Israeli vocal ensemble. Rechter worked on the piece for two years, studying in depth the ancient texts from the patriarchal chapters and carefully selecting the appropriate parts for the composition.

Also on the program: songs by poets and well-known and beloved songs, including beautiful songs that were hardly exposed to the audience, such as “Around Jerusalem” to the words of Dalia Ravikovic, and the cycle “Suddenly, start-listening”, to songs known as “Merry Cosmic Prophetic Song” and “Peeling orange”.

Rechter, creator, composer, performer and pianist whose great influence on Israeli music is reflected in hundreds of songs and works for adults and children and in collaborations with the best singers and performers, is a musician who never stops learning, discovering musical worlds and renewing. In addition to the familiar songs and musical materials that have become ironclad assets, Yoni Rechter has written music for theater, movies, operas for adults and children and more.

The collaboration between the Israeli vocal ensemble and Rechter began with the children’s opera “Itamar Meets a Rabbit” composed by Rechter, and performed by the vocal ensemble with the Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009 to the present day. The success of the collaboration led to a joint program in 2013 with the participation of the vocal ensemble singers and the premiere of “Pictures from the Fathers’ Joints” as part of the Oud Festival last November. The large audience that filled the Jerusalem Theater received the work with great enthusiasm that led to this concert and other planned performances.

Rechter created a kind of libretto, in which he composed various chapters from the ancient text. There are many influences in the work, from baroque music to rock jazz, including free improvisations. Together, Rechter and the vocal ensemble will present a musical journey in which the work moves from image to image, with the colors and moods frequently changing. Six of the 12 episodes of “Pictures from the Fathers’ Fathers” will be at the center of the joint concert. The vocal ensemble and Yoni Rechter himself will be joined by four musicians: Dor Daniel on percussion, Guy Levy on double bass, Ido Selznik on keyboards and Nadav Ben Ozer on saxophone flute and clarinet.
