Sang-Im Yoo (65), the second older brother of actor Oh-Seong Yoo (58), a professor at Seoul National University’s Department of Materials Engineering, has been nominated as a candidate for the Minister of Science and ICT.
On the morning of the 18th, Chief of Staff to the President Chung Jin-seok announced in a briefing at the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul, that President Yoon Seok-yeol had nominated Professor Yoo Sang-im as the Minister of Science and ICT. Regarding the nominee, Chung said, “Based on his extensive research experience and expertise in the science and technology field, Yoo is the right person to strongly lead science and technology policies in the midst of a major technological transition, including R&D system innovation.”
Candidate Yoo, who graduated from Seoul National University’s Department of Weapons Materials Engineering and received a doctorate in engineering from Iowa State University in the United States, is also the second older brother of famous actor Yoo Oh-seong. As a result, if candidate Yoo goes through a series of processes and becomes the Minister of Science and ICT, Yoo Oh-seong will have a brother who is a minister in addition to a member of the National Assembly.
Yoo Oh-seong, from Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, is the fourth of four sons and one daughter, and his third older brother is Yoo Sang-beom (60), a member of the People’s Power Party. Yoo is a former prosecutor who graduated from Seoul National University Law School and served as the chief prosecutor of Changwon District Prosecutors’ Office from 2015 to 2017. He became a member of the National Assembly after being elected in the 21st general election in 2020 in the Hongcheon, Hoengseong, Yeongwol, and Pyeongchang regions of Gangwon Province. He ran as a candidate for the People’s Power Party in the same district in the 22nd National Assembly election held in April of this year and was successfully re-elected.
Meanwhile, Yoo Oh-seong is set to release his new Netflix original series ‘Sweet Home Season 3’ on the 19th.
