Yoo Seung-min: “People are dying due to medical collapse… Yoon must resign”

Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min said, “The most urgent issue right now is the collapse of the medical system,” and urged, “President Yoon Seok-yeol must step down.”

Rep. Yoo said this on his Facebook page on the 24th, “What could be more urgent than this situation where the medical system is collapsing and the lives of the people are at risk?”

He pointed out, “The government increased the number of medical school students by 2,000 to save essential medical care, emergency medical care, and local medical care. However, the essential and emergency medical care that the government said it would save is rapidly collapsing. The situation is serious both in the metropolitan area and local areas. Far from having a trickle-down effect, doctors are disappearing.”

He added, “They said they would increase the number of medical school students and produce 10,000 more doctors in 10 years, but now more than 10,000 residents are disappearing, paralyzing university hospitals, and the supply of doctors will decrease starting next year due to mass leave of absence by medical school students.”

Rep. Yoo said, “Now is not the time to blame anyone or even argue about who is right or wrong. We need to start by solving this problem, where citizens who could have been saved in normal times are dying. President Yoon Seok-yeol must step down.”

He emphasized, “The president made a passionate argument on April 1st, just before the general election, that the number of people should be increased by 2,000, but has not said a word since then, even though the situation has gotten to this point. He must realize that his diagnosis and prescription were both wrong.”

He continued, “In order to save essential, emergency, and local medical care, we should have first created a system such as the health insurance system so that doctors, residents, and medical students can choose for themselves, and then increased the number of medical school students. The only person who can solve the current medical collapse that has become so tangled is the president,” he said, raising his voice.

Rep. Yoo said, “If this situation is left unresolved due to one person’s stubbornness and arrogance, the consequences will be dire, and the people will hold the president accountable.” He added, “It is already too late, but even now, the president must step forward and come up with a solution to resolve the situation. As time goes by, resolving the situation will become more difficult.”

Finally, he repeatedly emphasized, “The president is said to be announcing four major reforms, including pension reform, soon. Before that, we must first present a solution to prevent the collapse of the medical system.”
