At the press call event for the musical ‘Gwanghwamun Sonata’ held at the D Cube Link Arts Center in Guro-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 29th, singer Yoon Do-hyun (52), who was chosen to play the main character ‘Myeong-woo’, said about the reason why this season is special, “I feel like (the play) has become more detailed.” “There is this,” he said.
The musical ‘Gwanghwamun Sonata’ is now in its fourth season this year, following its premiere in 2017, its re-performance in 2018, and its third season in 2021. Yoon Do-hyun, who appeared in this work in 2021, once again played the role of the main character, Myeong-woo.
Regarding the character ‘Myeong-woo’, Yoon Do-hyun said, “I am a composer and an artist who is immersed in music. There are many risks in a life immersed in music, and I wanted to express that well.”
‘Gwanghwamun Love Story’ depicts the story of ‘Myeong-woo’, who wakes up in the ‘Exhibition Hall of Memories’ one minute before leaving life, meets ‘Wolha’, a destiny magician who oversees relationships, and goes on a trip down memory lane together. The play unfolds with famous songs by the late composer Lee Young-hoon, including ‘Red Sunset’, ‘Old Love’, ‘Girl’, ‘Flying Through the Deep Night’, ‘Standing Under the Shade of Trees’, ‘Sorrow’, and ‘In the Rain’. It happens.
Composer Lee Young-hoon (1960-2008) is a representative pop music composer who pioneered the ‘pop ballad’ genre in Korea, presenting poetic lyrics and lyrical ballad genre music.
Yoon Do-hyun, Eom Ki-jun, and Son Jun-ho were cast in the role of ‘Myeong-woo’, a composer who returns to his deeply sad 20s. Cha Ji-yeon, Kim Ho-young, and Seo Eun-kwang play the role of ‘Wolha’, a fate magician who oversees fate. In addition, Ryu Seung-joo, Seong Min-jae, and Park Sae-him appear.
‘Gwanghwamun Sonata’, which opened on the 23rd, will be performed at the D Cube Link Arts Center in Guro-gu, Seoul until January 5, 2025.
