DISPATCH — “The course is clear and simple”, assured Emmanuel Macron to his new government, this Friday July 21 during the Council of Ministers. The president set his priorities and presented his “summer emergencies”, while explaining that he wanted to do “continuity”. At the same time, you don’t change a winning team.

Now that the “hundred days” have passed, Emmanuel Macron recalled the action taken so far and called for the country’s desire for independence to be pursued, both economically, industrially and energy-wise. To fulfill this task, he mentioned four priority areas for improvement: education, health, ecological planning and “republican order”. Maybe, but not on all counts. By choosing to keep Élisabeth Borne at Matignon – whom 2/3 of the French would have preferred to see leave, Emmanuel Macron made the choice of “continuity and efficiency for the times to come and which are opening up before us.” Whether it is for the passage of the 2024 budget reform or the arrival of the Olympic Games, certain things will therefore not change, in particular because there is “a need for authority, respect and legitimate expectation at the same time”, in his words.

The president also called on his ministers to respect “efficiency”, “exemplarity” and “collegiality”, urging them to act rather than “speak in office”. “You are being watched,” he told them.
