If you are an online review shopper, there is good news for you. Accordingly, the government has announced new rules to prevent fake reviews and ratings on e-commerce websites. Reviews promoting certain brand products will no longer be posted. In this article, we will know what are the new regulations now.

E-commerce companies ensure that online reviews and star ratings of products are genuine. Guidelines for checking fake ratings outlined by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) have come into effect. BIS’s new standard IS 19000:2022 also provides methods for reviewer verification through e-mail address, identification through call (a) sms, confirmation of registration by clicking a link and captcha system to verify the authenticity of the reviewer.

In the meantime, users wishing to review products must first agree to the terms and conditions for providing contact information. The new rules state that reviews published on platforms must include the publishing date and ratings. Under the new rules, users will not be allowed to edit their reviews once they have posted them.

Users who wish to post reviews agree to the terms and conditions. Also provide their contact information. At the same time, any websites found to have fake reviews will be fined as an unfair trade practice. This applies to all companies like Zomato, Swiggy, Tata Sons, Reliance Retail, Meta and Amazon.
