WhatsApp officially launched the option to send photos in HD quality, which allows users to send images without losing resolution on both Android and iOS devices.
The instant messaging platform, owned by Meta, began working on a way to send photos in their original quality in January. With this option, it was possible to maintain the original dimensions of the image during sending, avoiding compressing the photo and, therefore, achieving a higher quality.
Later, during the month of June, it became known that WhatsApp was beginning to test sending HD photos with some users in the beta versions of Android and iOS.

Now, as the company has announced in a statement, users can officially send HD quality photos on the platform. With this new option, you can share photos in higher resolution, while also maintaining WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption protection.

How does it work?
Specifically, it is a function designed “for those special moments that you want your friends and family to enjoy down to the smallest detail”, as the company has shared.
However, as they have explained, in order to guarantee that the exchange of photos continues to be “fast and efficient”, the standard quality will continue to be the default option with which the photos are sent.

Following this line, if the user receives a photo when he has a low-bandwidth connection, WhatsApp allows him to choose if he wants to download with HD quality or if he prefers to keep the standard quality. In fact, this choice can be carried out photo by photo.
With all this, WhatsApp has detailed that the high-definition photo function will be deployed worldwide “in the coming weeks.” In addition, the social network has also advanced that, in the same way, it will implement an option to send videos in high definition that “will arrive soon.”
