New Xbox AI Chatbot Rolls Out to Insiders in the U.S.
Xbox Insiders in the US can start trying out this new Xbox AI chatbot at support.xbox.com, which will assist users with questions related to Xbox console and game support issues. “We value the feedback from Xbox Insiders for this preview experience, and any feedback received will be used to improve the Support Virtual Agent,” says Megha Dudani, senior product manager lead at Xbox.
The Xbox chatbot will appear as an AI character that animates when responding, or as a colorful Xbox orb. This feature is part of a larger initiative at Microsoft to integrate AI into its Xbox platform and services, with additional AI-powered features set to launch on Xbox consoles soon.
Unlike other divisions of Microsoft, Xbox has taken a more cautious approach to implementing AI features, despite CEO Satya Nadella’s directive to focus all of Microsoft’s businesses around AI. Until now, Microsoft has primarily concentrated on AI development tools, but the debut of this support chatbot signifies a shift in strategy.
Microsoft is also exploring ways to incorporate AI into game content creation, game operations, and across its Xbox platform and devices. Recent efforts include experimenting with AI-generated artwork and assets for games, AI game testing, and the development of generative AI NPCs in partnership with Inworld.

Time.news Interview: Exploring the New Xbox AI Chatbot
Editor: Thank you for joining us today! We’re excited to have you here to discuss the new Xbox AI chatbot, which is rolling out to insiders in the U.S. Can you give us some insights into how this chatbot will enhance the Xbox user experience?
Expert: Absolutely! The Xbox AI chatbot is designed to assist users with a wide range of questions related to Xbox consoles and game support issues. This interactive virtual assistant not only provides information but also engages users visually as it animates in response or presents itself as a colorful Xbox orb. The idea is to create a more enjoyable and intuitive support experience.
Editor: That sounds fascinating! Megha Dudani from Xbox mentioned that user feedback is crucial during this preview phase. How do you think user input can shape the development of the chatbot?
Expert: User feedback is invaluable, especially in a preliminary stage like this. It helps identify what works and what doesn’t from the user’s perspective. Gamers are known for their unique needs and preferences, so their insights will be instrumental in refining the chatbot’s responses, functionality, and overall performance. This approach emphasizes a user-centric development process.
Editor: Microsoft has been cautiously implementing AI initiatives within the Xbox platform, as opposed to some of its other divisions. Why do you think this is the case, and how might this cautious approach benefit the Xbox community?
Expert: It’s a thoughtful decision. The gaming community is diverse and highly engaged, so implementing AI features requires careful consideration to ensure they align with gamers’ expectations and enhance their experience. By taking a more reserved approach, Microsoft can ensure that they’re delivering value rather than overwhelming users with features that may not resonate. This can lead to a stronger and more loyal user base as trust is built in the technology.
Editor: You mentioned that there are additional AI-powered features set to launch soon for Xbox consoles. Can you give us a hint about what users might expect in the future?
Expert: While specific details are still under wraps, I can say that we can expect more personalized experiences that leverage AI to understand player preferences and behaviors. From smarter game recommendations to more intuitive in-game assistance, the possibilities are exciting and could lead to a more immersive gaming experience overall.
Editor: In terms of AI integration, how does this initiative reflect Microsoft’s broader strategy under CEO Satya Nadella?
Expert: Satya Nadella has emphasized the importance of integrating AI across all Microsoft services. The Xbox AI chatbot is a direct reflection of that vision, translating AI capabilities into the gaming world. It shows that Microsoft is not just about productivity tools; it’s committed to enriching all customer touchpoints, including gaming, with intelligent solutions that learn and adapt to user needs.
Editor: This initiative seems poised to redefine how players interact with their consoles. As we conclude, what do you hope to see as this technology develops in the gaming realm?
Expert: I hope to see AI enhancing not just support services but also gameplay and community interactions. Imagine AI guiding new players in real-time, assisting them within games, or even engaging with them in community forums. The future could see AI as a central character in the gaming experience, providing a seamless and supportive environment for all players.
Editor: Thank you for sharing your insights today! We look forward to seeing how this innovative approach with AI continues to evolve in the gaming landscape.
Expert: Thank you for having me! I’m excited about the future of gaming and the role AI will play in shaping it.
