It is the first time in 15 years that a Western European city has overtaken Eastern Europe to take the top spot for budget-friendly holidays. For Brits, a trip to Athens costs £207 (around Rs. 19,000) for two days. Apart from beautiful beaches, the city is also home to historical ruins and landmarks.
Lisbon: A couple can explore Portugal’s capital for £218 (Rs 20,000), including two nights’ hotel accommodation, sightseeing and local transport. Nice weather and amazing architecture await you.
Krakow: A short break in Krakow, Poland costs around £218. This city on the border with the Czech Republic is a great place for history buffs. The city is known for its cobbled streets and beautiful architecture.
Riga: A trip to Riga, Latvia will cost you around £220 or around Rs 20,100. Riga is known for its 19th century wooden architecture and rich cultural life.
Budapest: Budapest, Hungary’s capital, is the city with the best sights for less, according to the Barometer. Keep costs down to £220.95 a day.
Prague: Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is ranked sixth in the list of cheapest European places for city breaks. Like Budapest, Prague is a city across the Danube River. There are stunning castles and Gothic cathedrals. Around £248 (Rs 22,750 approx) per break
Madrid: Madrid, Spain is known for its legendary nightlife, and the food flavors and historic buildings are a major tourist attraction. A two-day trip costs around £298 or Rs 27,300.
