Pope Francis assured this Wednesday that “You should never kill in the name of God” and he remembered the martyrs of the Church and asked that they be “seeds of peace and reconciliation”.
“We are moved to see how the testimony of blood can unite people of different religions. One must never kill in the name of God, because for Him we are all brothers and sisters,” said the pontiff, leading the weekly General Audience in Saint Peter’s Square.
On several occasions, Francisco has rejected the instrumentalization of religions for violence and came to ensure that “killing in the name of God is satanic.” For the Pope, on the other hand, “together one can give one’s life for others”.
May “all the holy martyrs be seeds of peace and reconciliation between peoples for a more humane and fraternal world”, called Jorge Bergoglio, after reminding the people who died “giving their lives” for the Church over the years.
“Los martyrsimitating Jesus and with his grace, turn the violence of those who reject the announcement into a supreme occasion of love, which goes as far as the forgiveness of the executioners themselves,” he added later.
