“We should see who owns it,” V. Uspaskich told “Zinia Radio” on Tuesday, when asked who owns Crimea.
“I look at it very simply: who owns, for example, Klaipėda? For Lithuania, for the people of Lithuania. Who does Crimea belong to – the Crimean people”, he clarified his position.
“Just as Lithuania belongs to the people of Lithuania, Crimea also belongs to the people of Crimea,” added the former MEP.
The other candidates who took part in the “Žinių radio” program dedicated to the elections – Jonas Pinskas, the chairman of the Party of Regions of Lithuania, and Arnold Pikžirniis, a member of the Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos” – had no hesitation in this matter. Politicians emphasized that Crimea is part of Ukraine.
ELTA reminds that earlier in the public space there were questions about V. Uspaskich’s position on the Russian war in Ukraine. At the beginning of last year, the politician did not participate in the vote in the European Parliament (EP) regarding the resolution initiated by Lithuania, calling for the establishment of a special tribunal to investigate crimes of Russian aggression. The founder of the Labor Party did not vote in 2022 either. in November, when the EP considered the resolution on the recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
Internationally, it is recognized that in 2014 Crimea, illegally annexed by Russia, is part of Ukraine.
