«You were not made to live like brutes …» Gifuni reads Dante: the song of Ulysses

As part of the event “Taormina reads Dante”, the popular actor Fabrizio Gifuni proposed passages from the “Divine Comedy”: here the readings from the canticles of Hell and Paradise

The “Taormina Law Dante” initiative proposed a gala evening as part of the Taobuk festival. The event, which was held on 19 June 2021 at the Ancient Theater of Taormina (Messina), saw the interpreter read passages from the three canticles of the Divine Comedy: in particular from Canto XXVI of theInferno, the verses dedicated to the figure of Ulysses (vv. 85-142); the Canto XI of Purgatory, on the proud (integral); and Canto XXXIII of Paradiso (vv. 58-145). The reading was followed by a comment by the journalist and writer Aldo Cazzullo. The video proposes Gifuni’s reading of the steps fromInferno and from Paradiso. “Taormina reads Dante” is one of the initiatives of the city that reads Dante, the project promoted by the Center for books and reading (Cepell) created with the Association of Italianists (Adi) and in collaboration with Taobuk- Taormina Book Festival, Parco Archaeological Museum of the Colosseum, Municipality of Reggio Calabria, Municipality of Padua, Municipality of Lecce, Ugo Da Como Foundation sponsored by the National Committee for the Celebration of the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri.
