You will no longer be allowed to drive faster than 90 km/h anywhere, except for the Sigulda highway section in very good conditions / Day

by times news cr

From today until Wednesday, the maximum driving speed on the national road network will be adjusted to the changing and winter weather, but from Wednesday the maximum driving speed will be up to 90 km/h on the entire national road network.

An exception will be the section of the Vidzeme highway from Riga to Sigulda, where adaptive traffic management with variable information road signs works – in very good driving conditions, the maximum driving speed there will be 100 km/h even in the winter season. As the metrological and driving conditions deteriorate, the permitted speed there is reduced to 90, 80 or 70 km/h.

It should be taken into account that during the winter driving and metrological conditions can be felt several times a day, including at high speed, so drivers should pay attention to the instructions of the changing information road signs and follow them, LVC reminds.

As fall weather approaches, drivers are advised to be aware that it gets darker in the mornings and evenings, and visibility can be reduced by precipitation and fog. Roads can become slippery due to rain and fallen leaves, trees or branches can be broken on roads during autumn wind gusts.

On October 16, the winter maintenance season will begin in the national road network, which means that the road winter service will start work, which will monitor driving conditions and, if necessary, will carry out work to improve driving conditions as much as possible.

Anyone can call LVC’s 24-hour information toll-free number 8000 5555 to obtain or pass on information about what is happening on national roads.
