At the press conference presenting the event called Classic Car Show & Expo, the organizer said: the idea of the exhibition was formulated several years ago in the group of 50-60 friends, most of whom have their own hobby cars. Their goal was for everyone to present their favorite, special, beautiful Mercedes in factory condition.
The number of cars intended for the exhibition increased continuously, so in the end the size of the square set a limit to how many vehicles could be seen during the weekend. There are 56 Mercedes in the Academic Hall of the Pick Arena in Szeged, and about 80 in the open-air parking lot. Among the cars, there will be several cars of which only a few collector’s pieces have survived in the world, as well as those that were once used by famous and well-known people or politicians, or that have a special story attached to them, the president announced.
For example, they show a Mercedes-Benz SL 500 stolen from a dealership shortly after it left the production line in Stuttgart in October 1991. The 5-liter V8 convertible was on the list of stolen cars for 27 years and was only found at the end of 2018. However, it was hardly used during the 27 years, only 1,909 kilometers were covered.
The exhibition will feature several of the cars that served in the Republic Guard Regiment after the regime change, such as the W126 Mercedes Benz used by Árpád Göncz, the former W140 car of László Sólyom or the Mercedes reserved for Gyula Horn and his family between 1994-1998. Benz W202 C220 Elegance.
The exhibition will feature the “oil crisis-inspired” W126 300 SD, produced only for the American and Canadian markets, with a three-liter diesel engine, and the W125 500 E, the fastest sedan of the 1990s, whose engine was produced by Porsche.
The Classic Car Show & Expo offers many programs in addition to car wonders. As an accompanying event, guests at the Retro Auto Market can sample the range, even strike a deal, or even buy a new vehicle at a live auction.
You will be able to listen to a conversation with car market expert Gábor Várkonyi, Péter Kárai, owner of Kárai Exclusive, which mainly deals with the restoration of classic cars, as well as the professional team of BigBlock Tv and journalists of the SpeedZone car magazine.
