The National Youth Coordinator of the Colorado Party (PC), summarized as Jóvenes Colorados, issued a statement to the public this Saturday, October 14, after discussing inwardly what position they were going to take regarding the case of Gutavo Penadés, former senator of the National Party (PN), who is accused of 22 crimes related to sexual exploitation of minors and rape.
The Jóvenes Colorados expressed “their deepest support for the Judiciary and its role in the case, where one of the most important Senators in the government was firmly charged with twenty-two of the worst crimes in our system.”
And they added: “We hope, when Justice confirms the facts, that the full weight of the law falls on the accused and he serves his entire prison sentence.”
Criticism of the position of the national government
In the third of four points that comprise the communiqué of the young people of the PC, they express their rejection of “the position of the President of the Republic (Luis Lacalle Pou) and the Minister of the Interior (Luis Alberto Heber), who, at his inauguration, took sides by one of the parties.” This is a clear allusion to words from both of them who defended him publicly on repeated occasions.
Finally, they stressed the importance of “thoroughly investigating the existence of an alleged parallel investigation by the Ministry of the Interior, which, if confirmed, does not represent or be in accordance with the republican and democratic principles of our country.”
