According to the investigation, the suspect was the administrator of a Telegram channel called “French Aryan Division,” where he threatened to carry out violent acts for the Olympic Games.

With this arrest, there are now at least three attempts at an attack on the Olympic Games that the French police have thwarted.

Thwarted attack plans

In the past 4 months, at least two more arrests have been made in France on suspicion of plotting an attack on the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In April, French anti-terrorist authorities arrested a 16-year-old teenager who planned to die in the Olympic style.

According to the young man, who wrote on his social media, he planned to create an explosive belt and use it at the Games, where he would die as a “martyr.”

Although the police did not know whether the teenager was telling the truth or not, the young man was arrested.

Meanwhile, on May 22, a young Chechen man was arrested in Saint-Étienne, allegedly involved in a plan to attack an Olympic stadium.

According to French authorities, the young man was actively planning to carry out an attack on the Geoffroy Guichard stadium, a venue that will host Olympic football matches.

However, seeing the lack of security at the stadium, the young Chechen planned, “in the name of jihadist ideology,” violent actions against gatherings of fans around the stadium and near food outlets.

And, like the arrested teenager, this 18-year-old also sought to die as a “martyr.”

The Olympic Games in Paris, under heavy security in several parts of the French capital, will kick off on July 26 with an opening ceremony to be held on the River Seine.
