A Cuban mother, identified as María Cos, explained her son’s struggle to receive medical attention after being injured in the Saratoga Hotel explosion.

Despite surviving the incident that took place on May 6, 2022, his son, who was a minor at the time, now faces an uncertain future due to a lack of medical resources.

The woman reported that the young man was initially treated at the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital, but now, at 19 years old, he is in limbo and, as usual, the island’s authorities are not interested in the slightest.

“As he was a minor there (at the Juan Manuel Márquez) his file stayed. Now at 19 he is older. At Ameijeiras there are the resources and the machine that he needs, but the procedures are difficult,” Cos lamented.

The situation is even more complicated due to the injuries he suffered after the explosion that went around the world.

“He needs an operation on his head,” the boy’s mother said, referring to the aftermath of a door that fell on her during the collapse.

In addition, the young man requires a permanent urinary catheter due to damage to the urethra, which causes unbearable pain when the catheter becomes blocked. “He goes crazy with the pain and the urine cannot come out, it is taken with a syringe directly from the hole because it hurts a lot,” Cos argued.

For all of the above, the woman demanded that the dictatorship give her son the medical attention he requires, since the young man is currently suffering from hell firsthand.

“Supposedly, the victims of this disaster are a priority for the Government,” he asserted.
