A large percentage of the electoral roll corresponds to young people, therefore, it is significant to understand their position regarding the electoral panorama. So, what do young people expect from the new president?

Estefanía Chiliguano, 17 years old, said that the campaigns, seeking well-being, in many cases, in full conditions, that “fulfill everything they say, that seek priority works or projects for young people, and low-income people.”

“Helping youth so that they have the same possibilities to enter university.” Despite being an optional vote, the young woman is determined to vote in the second electoral round with the desire to “see if they are actually fulfilled in favor of the well-being of the country.”

Ismael Orozco, 17 years old, already voted in the first electoral round and in the second round he considers it “necessary to decide for the future of the country.

Opinions

The new ruler must comply with all his proposals, he is my only hope to take the country forward.” For Orozco, the politicians’ campaign is good, since they manage platforms that young people use and it is a good strategy. Likewise, he indicated that some boys do tend to show interest in politics, since they pay close attention to the candidates’ speech so that their vote is not harmful.

Jesenia Valdez, 22, who recently completed her university career, expressed that there are more job opportunities for recent graduates, since they ask for several years of experience, unemployment that “we do not have the opportunity to work.”
Diego Basantes, a student, added that the most acceptable and responsible thing is for the new ruler to support education and the current situation in the country, due to unemployment.

Victoria Ilvay, a 17-year-old student, pointed out that youth have expectations according to the candidate that his performance in public is acceptable. In addition, she assured that the young people made viable proposals regarding security and education.

The political culture of young people is a determining factor for this new electoral round since it will define, in a certain way, who will receive the mandate of the new presidency of Ecuador.
Therefore, their participation with the right to vote is important, also electoral campaigns are trying to attract young voters with political marketing strategies. In fact, young people currently represent 25% of the total voters that Ecuador has, according to data from the Council National Electoral (CNE).
Indeed, with these premises, the behavior and electoral participation of young people are positive and encouraging.
