Young Portuguese and other nationalities will make a pilgrimage on foot along 140 km, from Fátima to Lisbon (Portugal), between July 27 and 31, towards World Youth Day (WYD) 2023.

The initiative is promoted by the Sanctuary of Fátima and the National Body of Listeners with the motto “Mary got up and left in a hurry.” WYD will take place from August 1 to 6 in Lisbon.

The pilgrimage is titled “Walk with Mary”. The pilgrims will cross Minde, Alcanena, Pernes, Santarém, Morgado, Valada, Azambuja, Vila Franca de Xira, arriving in the Portuguese capital on July 31.

During the journey, the young people will carry the pilgrimage image nº 2 of Our Lady of Fatima. The litter will be carried on the shoulders of the pilgrims and, in some places, it will be moved by a car at low speed.

The last stretch of the pilgrimage will be by sea. The wooden platform of Our Lady of Fátima will be transported by a boat belonging to the Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira and escorted by fishermen, private ships and the Portuguese Navy.

According to the organizers, the pilgrimage will have “moments of prayer, silence, songs, sharing, celebration, in the style of the scout movement, where all young people will be very welcome.”

In addition, a moment of vigil is planned in the presence of the pilgrim image, open to the community, every night.
