A suspect was in police custody on Sunday evening the day after the discovery of the body of a young woman on Saturday in a river in Lanester (Morbihan), near Lorient, AFP learned on Sunday from the public prosecutor of Lorient Stéphane Kellenberger.

Iris C., 23, was seen at a bar she allegedly left around 3 a.m. According to a bartender who was not working that evening, she would have left, accompanied by these three men. She was “not in her normal state,” he told the newspaper.

“She walked to the Mercure hotel with these three guys. She collapsed twice. One of the three men left. One of them would have taken her in his arms and carried her like a baby. Afterwards we did not see her again, ”he told the Telegram.

Strangulation marks

The victim could be identified. Born in 1999, Iris C. the young woman, originally from the country of Lorient, was “completely unknown, until then, to the justice services in any capacity whatsoever”, the prosecutor told AFP on Sunday. She was found in the water of Blavet, at the height of the port Saint-Guénaël naked and bore marks of strangulation, indicated a police source. According The Telegramshe also had numerous bruises.

The prosecutor confirmed that “a criminal investigation in flagrante, against X” was opened by the Lorient prosecutor’s office “for intentional homicide”. “The investigations are actively underway and entrusted to the departmental security of the central police station of Lorient with the support of the forensic identification services”, he continued. An autopsy is scheduled for early next week to clarify the circumstances of the death.
