Elon Musk is now becoming a must-read in the daily newspaper. A 62-year-old chief engineer has accused Elon Musk’s space company SpaceX of sidelining him out of fear he would die or retire.
John Johnson chronicled his journey to SpaceX in a blog post. He noted that despite meeting performance targets and working longer hours than his colleagues, his work was gradually transferred to younger engineers. Musk has also filed a complaint with the Washington State Human Rights Commission alleging age discrimination at the Rocket company.
Johnson, who was hired by SpaceX in 2018 at the age of 58, has deep expertise in a key field called optical engineering, which is used to receive and transmit satellite images of Earth.

At SpaceX and now Twitter, Musk sees his employees as hard workers. Older workers are less productive. There is a perception that people cannot do hard work. My work was meant to challenge that.
I spent most of my time working in that company. I worked day and night even on weekends. Almost 10-12 hours daily
I spent time. No one has worked more hours than me. He mentioned in his post that even during Corona, when engineers were working remotely, I went to the office and worked.
And it was only when he went into surgery in 2020 that his duties began to be transferred to other younger staff with less experience and expertise. She then complained to HR about the age discrimination she was facing in the company. They explained that there was a “misunderstanding” and asked me to look at the inner workings instead of my technical work.
He said that there are no more jobs in the technical field, but his employer is offering him some new work. He was forced to leave the company in June 2022 as the new assignment proved unproductive. He alleged that it is wrong to remove people from jobs on the grounds of age without giving value to expertise and skills.
