As a result, the two fell in love and tried to commit suicide by drinking poison. The woman involved has died as a result. The man is being treated at a hospital in a life-threatening condition.
Periyasamy (age 20) is the son of Mani from North Pattappuli Street in Periyakulam. The two fell in love while Vidya (19), daughter of Nallayan from the same area, was studying in first year college while he was working as a laborer. It is said that both the parents of the couple objected to the marriage as the details of the couple’s love were revealed by both the parents of the couple.
The two left home last night and tried to commit suicide by drinking poison in a garden behind a private college near Periyakulam. Vidya has died after drinking poison. Periyasamy fainted. Both were rescued by people in the area and admitted to the Periyakulam Government Hospital for treatment.
Vidya’s body was recovered and sent to Theni Government Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Police have registered a case against the two and are investigating. The incident has caused a great stir in Theni.
