In Malappuram, tensions erupted when SFI, DYFI and CPM activists protested at the Congress regional convention attended by KPCC president K Sudhakaran. The protest march was initially organized by SFI activists. Police intervened after a minor altercation ensued. With this, the activists broke up.

Later, DYFI-CPM activists staged a protest. Following the chanting of slogans against Sudhakaran, the Youth Congress workers also rallied and shouted slogans again. Tensions escalated as both factions chanted provocative slogans. Police intervened and removed both groups of activists. A police team led by Malappuram DySP is camping at the spot. Both factions are standing in two places and shouting slogans. The tension has not completely changed.

Protests in Kollam and Pathanamthitta were similarly tense. In Chavara, a complaint was raised that the vehicle of NK Premachandran MP was attacked by DYFI activists. It is alleged that DYFI activists who took part in the protest against the Idukki murder tried to smash the vehicle. Police repulsed the activists.
