Young people spend more than 70 hours online per week. This is the result of the Postbank Youth Digital Study 2021. The main goals of the kids are social networks.
As in the previous year, WhatsApp, YouTube and Instagram are the primary contact points for 16 to 18 year olds. 83 percent use WhatsApp and 77 percent use Instagram. In 2020, YouTube was still on par with WhatsApp, but lost seven percentage points and is now in second place with 79 percent.
According to the study, a total of 99 percent of young people are registered in social networks.
Winner TikTok
TikTok was able to grow significantly. More than every second young person questioned (58 percent) stated that they were registered with the short video network. In 2020 it was only 27 percent.
Facebook and Twitter (17 percent) only play a subordinate role among teenagers.
Girls love Snapchat
Snapchat is also popular with young people. A total of 62 percent say they use the messenger service. At 74 percent, however, girls are more active than boys (50 percent). The situation is similar with TikTok (73 percent girls, 44 percent boys).
