Youth under 30 outline their vision for the future of the EU

It contains the desire for a green, solidary, digital EU.

Wien. What should the Europe of tomorrow look like? In times of overlapping crises, which completely absorb the action of politics, business, science and civil society, the debate about the future of our continent is neglected. It is all the more important that the younger generation – i.e. those who are directly affected – think about how the EU should develop in the next 20, 30 or 50 years. In the book published by Czernin by the Austrian Society for European Policy (ÖGfE) “Under 30! Young Visions for Europe”, young people from all walks of life and with different cultural backgrounds have their say and outline their ideas of an innovative, modern community.

In addition to demands for more environmental awareness and regionality, the fight against anti-Semitism and racism, for comprehensive digitization, a fair asylum system and equal educational opportunities for everyone in the European biotope, the disenchantment with politics, which now runs through all social classes and age groups, resonates again and again. Young people want more participation in political decision-making processes. The lack of proximity to the EU institutions is addressed more than once in “Under 30!”. According to one of the authors, their legitimacy could be improved by Europe-wide lists in the EU elections. The (largely) lack of political education in schools in Europe is also an issue. (aga.)
