YouTube is one of the most popular video streaming platforms worldwide, with around 2.5 billion users. To improve the video streaming experience, the platform is introducing a new and exciting feature that aims to help users find the right video without having to scroll through much. According to reports, YouTube is testing a “Play Something” floating action button.
YouTube is bringing a new button
According to a recent report by 9to5Google, this new “Play Something” button appears on a black background with white text and is located just above the bottom bar. Tapping this button starts a random video in the Shorts player. The special thing is that this feature can also play normal content in portrait mode, where like, dislike, comment and share buttons appear on the right side and below the timeline scrubber player.
However, it is worth noting that the “Play Something” button disappears when the miniplayer is active. This isn’t the first time YouTube has explored a “Play Something” feature; In 2023, a Reddit user saw a banner that read, “Confused what to watch?” And it was accompanied by a “Play Something” button.
Google is considering its rollout
It’s unclear when or how this new “Play Something” button will be available to all users. It seems that Google is still considering its rollout.
In other news, tech giant Apple has taken the major step of stopping the sale of three iPhone models in several countries in Europe. These models include iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone SE (3rd generation). As a result, these devices have been removed from Apple’s online store.
This restriction is not limited to online sales only; Customers will not be able to buy these iPhones even from physical retail stores. This decision of Apple has been taken in response to a regulation made by the European Union regarding the use of Lightning connector.
