YouTube plans to launch a streaming services store

YouTube, owned by Alphabet, plans to launch a store with subscriptions to various streaming services. The video hosting management is already negotiating with copyright holders to participate in the project, reports The Wall Street Journal, citing sources. The so-called “channel store” could be launched as early as autumn.

According to the newspaper, work on a possible marketplace has been going on for “at least 18 months.” YouTube wants to collect streaming services in one place, and it will be possible to choose subscriptions through its platform.

The publication notes that selling subscriptions to various services on one site can greatly simplify the subscription process for viewers. It is assumed that the competitive advantage of video hosting will be the popularity of the platform all over the world. It is noted that the “channel store” will first be available to users from the United States, and then such a service will appear in other countries.

Sources familiar with the situation note that the conditions for the distribution of revenue between YouTube and streaming “can be very different for different partners.”

Other companies such as Apple and Amazon have similar projects. Other streaming services have also partnered with Verizon’s service.
