The Judicial Branch of the State of Veracruz has issued a letter to the United States Embassy in Mexico to locate Miguel Angel Yunes Marquez, senator elected by the PAN.

An initial hearing will be held on July 11 due to the fact that he is being investigated for three alleged crimes: use of false documents, false statements before authorities and procedural fraud.

The document issued requests that the United States Government rectify Yunes’ stay in that country, specifically in Jacksonville, Florida.

On July 5, Yunes’ defense announced that he was leaving the country due to health reasons. After this, it was announced that the hearing will be held remotely via video call.

“In order to ensure that it is carried out on its terms, we kindly request, on the one hand, the Embassy of the United States of America, in support of this jurisdictional body, to verify with personnel under its command that citizen Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez, in his capacity as investigated within the criminal process at hand, is from now on physically at the aforementioned address, that is, at the Courtyard Marriot Jacksonville at the Mayo Clinic Hotel,” reads the letter sent to the United States Embassy.

This morning, Governor Cuitláhuac García Jiménez mentioned that after this request, the Attorney General’s Office must report on this process.

“It is best to follow a legal process and for the Prosecutor’s Office to provide information and probably take great care of the process to avoid legal tricks from escaping responsibility, presumably for the crimes that could have been committed.”
