Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan is joining the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a mentor for Lucknow Super Giants. He will start working from the upcoming season. This is what the cricket-based Indian media ESPN Cricinfo has said.

Zaheer Khan mentors Lucknow in IPL

Earlier Gautam Gambhir was Lucknow’s mentor. The post was vacant in Lucknow ever since the former Indian cricketer joined the national team coach. The appointment of Zaheer was being discussed there for quite some time. Finally, Lucknow chose the World Cup winning pacer.

It is known that Zaheer will not stay in just one post. This legendary Indian fast bowler will also be involved in cricket scouting and cricketer development programs throughout the year. However, it is not yet certain whether he will be seen as a bowling coach.

Morne Morkel had earlier worked as the bowling coach for the Lucknow team. He is now the pace bowling coach of the Indian team. It was known earlier that Lucknow wants to fill two deficiencies by taking Zaheer into the team. However, the franchise did not announce anything new.

Zaheer Khan has a lot of experience as a coach or mentor. He worked for several years in the five-time title-winning Mumbai Indians team. Apart from this, this pacer, who was the highest wicket taker in the 2011 ODI World Cup, also took the responsibility of developing young pacers as a senior while in the Indian team.
