Abu Dhabi: The UAE’s Fatwa Council has announced that the amount of Ramadan Fitr Zakat in the UAE will be 25 dirhams per person. Zakat al-Fitr is a charity given to the poor before the end of the month of Ramadan. Payments can be made from the first day of Ramadan until the morning of the festival before prayers.

The amount to sponsor an Iftar meal for those in need is 15 dirhams. Food can be sponsored through registered charities operating in the country. In addition, if a person is unable to fast due to old age or illness, the same rate is given to provide food worth this amount to the poor.
A person who gives up or stops fasting for no valid reason must pay a sufficient amount to feed 60 needy people. This year the amount is 900 dirhams. It is to be provided through registered charitable organizations in the country.
Ramadan is likely to begin on April 2 this year. According to astronomical calculations, Ramadan is expected to last 30 days. Eid al-Fitr is likely to be on May 2.
