The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on the story of the arrest of a Belarusian journalist, who is now in the detention center at Akrestsin Street in Minsk.

“We are talking about the Belarusian media and citizens of Belarus. At the same time, the newspaper operates as a branch of the Russian edition. In this regard, we proceed from the assumption that the rights of journalists will be respected in accordance with generally accepted international norms, ”Zakharova said in Telegram.

She added that the Russian Embassy in Minsk is in constant contact with the Belarusian side on the work of Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belarus.

The editor-in-chief of Komsomolskaya Pravda, Vladimir Sungorkin, said earlier that the editorial office had no information about the whereabouts of the employee, RIA Novosti wrote. Mozheiko, according to the newspaper, is the author of the publication of the memoirs of a classmate of Minsk programmer Andrei Zeltser, who, according to the authorities, killed an officer of the special forces of the Belarusian KGB during the storming of the apartment.

On September 29, access to the website of the Russian edition on the territory of the republic was limited. The decision to block it was made by the Interdepartmental Commission on Security in the Information Sphere under the Security Council of Belarus. The Ministry of Information motivated the decision by the fact that information was published on the newspaper’s website, contributing to “the formation of sources of threats to national security.” The editor-in-chief of the newspaper, Vladimir Sungorkin, linked the blocking of the site to this publication. The journalist reported that the newspaper appealed to the authorities of the republic, including President Lukashenko, about the blocking, but to no avail.

The Kremlin said yesterday that it did not agree with the decision of the Belarusian authorities to block access to the website of Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belarus. “We strongly disagree with this. We believe that, of course, this is in violation of the principle of freedom of the media, “- said the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov. He also said that Moscow expects from Minsk “to provide conditions for the work of our media on the territory of Belarus.”
