Interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states is a NATO routine, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova recalled on December 3 in response to the words of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken about “aggressive Russia.”
“Hundreds of special operations aimed at interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign states and changing their political agenda is a NATO routine. So such statements by the Secretary of State are nothing more than a failed attempt to provide an ideological basis for the “summit of democracies” organized by Washington. If the State Department decided to look for aggressors violating international law, then the partners should start this process, standing in front of a mirror, ”the diplomat wrote in her Telegram channel.
In support of her words, Zakharova recalled Syria, Libya, Iraq, Yugoslavia, where NATO, led by the United States, demonstrated open armed aggression. She also cited Ukraine as an example, where the United States, in coordination with Brussels, led anti-constitutional coups.
Moreover, the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Belarus, where the United States and NATO countries conducted demonstrative attempts to overthrow the government using elements of a hybrid war.
“This is just some of the American pranks of the past two decades. In large strokes, so to speak. As a result, millions of wounded, crippled, destitute and killed people around the world, ”Zakharova emphasized.
On December 3, Anthony Blinken announced that NATO was not planning any aggression against Russia. The only aggression that has been demonstrated in recent years allegedly comes from Russia, he said.
On December 2, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with the US Secretary of State in Stockholm, which lasted about 40 minutes. According to experts, such a duration has shown that there is little chance of a breakthrough in the negotiations.
On November 21, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the West is artificially stirring up hysteria with its statements about the alleged preparation of Russia for an attack on Ukraine. He added that provocations are not ruled out, and NATO countries should stop “pumping up Ukraine with modern weapons.”
In addition, Peskov stressed that NATO should stop provocative activities near the Russian borders to determine a way out of the current tense situation in relations between the Russian Federation and the West. He added that under the guise of the alliance’s exercises in the Black Sea, Ukraine is most likely seeking another attempt to start a military solution to its internal problem.
