The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the statement of British Foreign Minister Liz Truss about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “under a false flag” disinformation. Zakharova published a video with a comment on her Telegram channel.
“This is feeding this disinformation to their local journalists and tabloids – the media of disinformation in Britain. You probably saw that The Sun, apparently also at the suggestion of the Foreign Office, and maybe even Downing Street, gives a new date: it clarifies whether it’s at one in the morning, or at 4 in the morning – no longer I know exactly according to Greenwich Mean Time or something else – there will be exactly, for sure, highly likely (most likely with a high degree of probability. – Ed.), Perhaps, Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine is inevitable. Therefore, the British officialdom simply cannot afford, it will cost them dearly, to say goodbye to the version that was fed to their media of disinformation, and therefore is trying to save face in an awkward way, seemingly confirming the previously given assurances, and at the same time allowing himself to start a kind of retreat back and sideways, inventing a version about some “foreign flags”,” Zakharova said.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden told allies in the West that Russia allegedly intends to attack Ukraine on February 16, Politico wrote, citing US officials. According to them, the invasion may be preceded by a “flurry of missile strikes and cyber attacks.” According to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, statements in the context of the alleged Russian invasion of Ukraine in the West are “ostentatious hysteria, which, of course, is not based on anything.”
Last autumn, the Western media began to publish materials about Russia’s military buildup near the Ukrainian borders and about plans to invade Ukraine. In response to such publications, Moscow has repeatedly stated that they are conducting exercises and moving troops only on their own territory at their own discretion. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Kremlin, emphasized that the very idea of a war with Ukraine is unacceptable and the country is not going to attack anyone.
