Moscow hopes that American diplomats will report to their leaders in Washington on the reason for summoning US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan to the Russian Foreign Ministry, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
“I read three versions of the call from the US Ambassador to the Russian Foreign Ministry. All the same, the Foreign Ministry called, the Foreign Ministry knows the real reason for the challenge. There is only one reason – interference in the Russian elections. We hope that this is exactly what the American diplomats will report to Washington. And not as it is written in the press release of the American embassy, which is divorced from reality, ”Zakharova wrote in her Telegram channel.
Earlier, Sullivan arrived at the Russian Foreign Ministry and spent about 20 minutes there. He was summoned to the Russian ministry for a meeting with Deputy Minister Sergei Ryabkov, during which the diplomat was told about the inadmissibility of interference in the internal affairs of Russia.
On September 19, elections to the State Duma of the eighth convocation will be held in Russia. Simultaneously with them, regional and municipal elections will also be held, in particular – the heads of eight subjects and 39 regional parliaments.
