CDMX.- Arturo Zaldivar He is a minister who was losing his own voice to submit to the wishes of the president, this is how journalist Carlos Loret de Mola criticizes today the resignation of the jurist from the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to join Claudia Sheinbaum’s campaign, from Morena.

Today in “Historia de Reportero”, Loret de Mola warns that Zaldívar went from being an independent minister with Felipe Calderón to a subordinate with Andrés Manuel López Obradorto whom – he points out – he decided to submit.

“For the packaging with which Arturo Zaldívar arrived at the Court, ending up making a shortlist with Yasmin Esquivel (the plagiarist) and Loretta Ortizat the service of the workshop, must be a bitter curricular devaluation,” he says in his article.

From his newscast in Latinus yesterday and today in his column, the journalist did not miss the opportunity to point out that the minister was losing his own voice and his progressive profile, which characterized him, “to become a simple transmission belt for the desires of the President”.

For this reason, he asserts that although his resignation from the Court, which has not been approved by the Senate, may “astonish and outrage, but not surprise.”

Through a letter sent to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Zaldívar yesterday presented his resignation to the Supreme Court of Justice.

In his letter, the minister points out that his cycle on the highest court came to an end because his contributions to a better country had become marginal.

“I believe that it is of the greatest importance to join the consolidation of the transformation in Mexico from the spaces that give me the opportunity to have an impact on the construction of a fairer and more egalitarian country,” he says in reference to his incorporation to the team of Claudia.

FROM CALDERÓN TO AMLO; FROM INDEPENDENCE TO SUBMISSION

In his column, Carlos Loret de Mola remembers that Arturo Zaldívar was a minister who showed courage and courage by responding firmly 13 years ago to the then president. Felipe Calderonemanating from the ranks of the PAN.

Zaldívar came to the Supreme Court 14 years ago during Calderón’s six-year term, who proposed him on the recommendation of Fernando Gómez Mont, his Secretary of the Interior. Months after his entry, in 2010, he showed his independence towards the president; That – Loret remembers – was his first act.

“Zaldívar made his debut by proposing to the plenary session to condemn the Calderón government and several of its highest officials for the fire at the ABC daycare center in Sonora. Zaldívar says that when Calderón told him – via Gómez Mont – that he was ungrateful, he reminded him that he had appointed a minister, not a subordinate,” says the journalist.

“13 years later, the same Minister Zaldívar made a diametrically different decision: without that courage or courage, he chose to submit to the President,” adds Loret de Mola.

ZALDÍVAR, THE SECOND MINISTER WHO RESIGNS FROM THE COURT

Since the judicial reform of 1994, two ministers have resigned from the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation: Eduardo Medina Mora and Arturo Zaldívar, but due to different circumstances.

On October 3, 2019, Medina Mora decided to resign from his position amid scandals of illicit enrichment and money laundering; Now it is Zaldívar who is leaving office, but to join a political campaign.

“Something like this had not happened – a minister resigning to join a campaign – since the SCJN was rearmed in 1994,” says Carlos Loret de Mola in his column today about the most recent case.

Precisely in the context of Medina Mora’s resignation, four years ago, Zaldívar wrote on his social networks that the closest case had been that of Ernesto Díaz Infante, with a “voluntary retirement.”

“Since the 1994 reform that established the Supreme Court as a Constitutional Court, not a minister had resigned. The closest precedent is from December 1989 with the ‘voluntary retirement’ of Ernesto Díaz Infante. But it was a Court that played a less relevant role,” he wrote on October 4, 2019.
