“This is below the “dead” point of 12.7 meters, when we can no longer take water to populated areas and for the Zaporizhia NPP,” the head of Ukrhydroenergo said on the air of the Ukrainian telethon. Igor Sirat.

He believes that the drop in the water level will stop at about 3 meters.

“If the dam in the lower part is destroyed up to the foundation, the depth of the reservoir will be no more than three meters, and its width will decrease from 3.5 kilometers, as it was before the explosion, to 1-1.2 kilometers, that is, it will return to the Dnieper , as it was before the construction of the reservoir itself,” the specialist explained.

According to him, the drop in the water level may continue for another seven or eight days. Ihar Sirato added that half of the Kakhovskaya HPP is already completely under water, the other half – by 70%. The earthen insert between the lock and the station is also already under water and subject to erosion.

On the morning of June 6, it became known about the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP dam. The Ukrainian authorities blamed the Russian occupation forces, which seized and controlled the hydroelectric power plant from February 24, 2022, for its undermining. The Russian occupation authorities, on the other hand, claim that it was the Ukrainian military that fired at and damaged the Kakhovskaya HPP dam at night.

The company “Ukrhydroenerga” is convinced that the destruction of the occupied Kakhovskaya HPP was caused by an explosion inside the station, and such an explosion occurred in three places.

The USA and Great Britain state that it is still too early to say what caused the destruction of the Kakhova HPP.
