The personnel concerns at German handball champions SC Magdeburg are increasing. With Manuel Zehnder, another top performer is missing. It is questionable whether he will be able to play again this year.
Double winner SC Magdeburg has to cope with the next injury-related loss. After Felix Claar, Omar Ingi Magnusson and Oscar Bergendahl, Manuel Zehnder will now also be out for months.
The 25-year-old backcourt player seriously injured his left knee in an international handball match between Switzerland and Italy, as the SCM announced. An MRI scan revealed a tear in the cruciate ligament as well as the medial ligament and the meniscus.
“This news is the next big blow for us,” said managing director Marc-Henrik Schmedt. “After the first binding investigations, we unfortunately have to assume that the downtime will be so long that a return to play in the calendar year 2025 is questionable.”
Zehnder only moved to Magdeburg in August 2024. He signed a two-year contract there. By signing Zehnder, the club wanted to respond to the loss of Claar, who had injured his Achilles tendon at the Olympic Games.
