Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launches on November 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2.

Zelda Direct Unveils Ocarina of Time Remake Features and November Release

Nintendo hosted a 30-minute Zelda Direct presentation dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the franchise, giving fans a detailed look at the heavily anticipated remake of Ocarina of Time. Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma walked viewers through the early Kokiri Forest, demonstrating how classic level design translates to modern hardware. While area maps and puzzle solutions remain identical to the 1998 original, the remake introduces significant visual updates with realistic material textures and water effects.

Players will also encounter several gameplay adjustments designed for modern audiences. A dedicated jump button replaces the original automatic ledge jumps, and a sprint button eliminates the need to continuously somersault across the overworld. In addition, cutscenes feature full voice acting, and players can now swim and dive without special clothing.

Exploration and hint systems receive an upgrade through Nintendo Switch 2 integrations. The Threads of Time feature provides directional hints without showing solutions directly in the game world. Meanwhile, returning utility from Zelda Notes powers gossip quests that require players to track down specific in-game locations using screenshots as guides.

Pricing and Release Strategy Amid November Competition

The Ocarina of Time remake arrives on November 5, positioning Nintendo’s major holiday title just weeks ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI.

This places the title at the cheaper Switch 2 price point rather than the premium $69.99 cost charged for releases like Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong Bananza, and well below the $79.99 price of all-new entries like Tears of the Kingdom.

Special Hardware and Ocarina Accessories

To celebrate the anniversary, Nintendo revealed a dedicated hardware line releasing on October 29. The Zelda-themed Switch 2 features green Joy-Con controllers adorned with a Triforce pattern, a black dock with a gold Triforce emblem, a matching Pro Controller, and a carrying case.

True to the game’s musical roots, players can interact with the in-game ocarina by humming notes directly into the Switch 2 microphone. Nintendo is also releasing a physical ocarina peripheral separately that works alongside the game.

Global Anniversary Celebrations and Live-Action Movie Details

Beyond the game, Nintendo outlined an extensive slate of 40th anniversary collaborations and museum exhibits. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto provided new information regarding the upcoming live-action film, confirming it is simply titled The Legend of Zelda without a subtitle because viewers will understand the choice once they see the film.
