Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are visiting Washington DC to meet with Donald Trump at the White House. The leaders arrive amid two different wars—the war in Ukraine and the war in Iran—while attending the funeral of Republican Senator Lindsay Graham.
The visit marks a high-stakes convergence of global conflicts in the U.S. capital. While the official occasion is the funeral of Senator Lindsay Graham, the diplomatic agenda focuses on the separate war efforts led by Zelensky and Netanyahu. According to BBC reporting, both leaders will separately meet with Donald Trump at the White House to discuss two different wars: the war in Ukraine and the war in Iran.

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s presence in Washington follows a congressional address on 24 July, his first international trip since the campaign in Gaza began last October. Following these assassinations, Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin reiterated the U.S.’s unwavering support
for Israel on 31 July, pledging to come to its defence if attacked. Middle East Eye reports that many observers view the rapturous applause Netanyahu received from U.S. lawmakers and his meetings with Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Donald Trump and other U.S. officials as a green light to continue Israel’s rampage unabated.
The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor
Beyond the immediate military conflict, Netanyahu has promoted a broader geopolitical vision. During his last address at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2023, he detailed the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (Imec). This proposed structure would create a line that extended from India through the Persian Gulf, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Jordan to the port of Haifa in Israel and from there to Europe.

The diplomatic reception in Washington stands in stark contrast to the legal challenges facing the Israeli Prime Minister. He is currently indicted on several corruption charges by his own Zionist regime and is facing arrest for war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
This legal precariousness adds a layer of urgency to his meetings with U.S. officials. While the U.S. executive branch continues to offer support, the disparity between the “honour” afforded to Netanyahu in Congress and his status with the ICC highlights a deepening divide in international legal standing.

Zelensky’s focus remains the war in Ukraine, while Netanyahu arrived to incite a war against Iran and prolong his genocidal campaign in Gaza.
