President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on a visa-free regime for those foreigners who want to join the International Territorial Defense Legion, UNIAN reports.

The visa-free regime is introduced temporarily, from March 1, 2022, “for the period of martial law until the relevant decision is made by the President of Ukraine.” Volunteers from any countries can join the international legion, except for those recognized by Ukraine as an “aggressor state”. The latter includes Russia.

Zelensky announced the formation of an “international defense legion”

Zelensky signed the decree on the formation of the legion on February 28, on the fifth day after the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the goal of the operation is the liberation of Donbass, the “denazification” and “demilitarization” of Ukraine. The Ukrainian authorities regard the incident as a war.

After Putin announced a special operation, Zelensky imposed martial law in the country and began a general mobilization, as well as severed diplomatic relations with Moscow.
