In his statement, Zelensky called the lack of a deadline for an invitation “unprecedented” and “absurd”.

“Now, on the way to Vilnius, we have received signals that certain wording is being discussed without Ukraine,” Zelensky said. “And I would like to emphasize that this essay is about inviting Ukraine to become a NATO member, not about Ukraine membership itself.”

The Ukrainian president was invited to participate in the event and should arrive in Vilnius this Tuesday, to participate in the summit only on Wednesday 12th, when the session of the so-called NATO-Ukraine Council will take place.

Although Zelensky attended the meeting, he was waiting for the official invitation for Ukraine to join the alliance, however, some officials like the president of the United States, Joe BidenNATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and UK Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace advocate Ukraine joining only after the end of war with russia.

“It seems that there is no disposition either to invite Ukraine to NATO or to make it a member of the alliance”, criticized the Ukrainian president. “Uncertainty is weakness. And I will discuss this openly at the summit. Not now, while the war lasts, but we need a clear signal; and that clear sign is needed now.”
