Zelensky: “We brought the war back to Russian soil”

by times news cr

“We have returned the war brought by the enemy (Russia) to their land.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has been occupying the Sumy area in Kursk Oblast in southern Russia since the 6th of this month, repeatedly emphasized the legitimacy of the attack on the Russian mainland on the 24th. His message is that since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and occupied a significant portion of Ukrainian territory, Ukraine’s retaliation is inevitable. He also revealed that they are attacking Russia with the domestically produced new missile drone ‘Palianitsa’.

According to Reuters and other news agencies, President Zelensky released a video of his recent visit to Sumy to mark the 33rd anniversary of Independence Day. Ukraine, which was part of the former Soviet Union, celebrates Independence Day on August 24, 1991, the day the country declared independence. The Soviet Union collapsed in December of that year.

In the video, President Zelensky stated that “the occupation of Kursk Oblast is a just retaliation (for the Russian invasion)” and that “there will be no Russian land that Ukraine’s attack will not reach,” indicating his intention to continue the attack on the mainland. He also urged the United States and other Western countries that provided Ukraine with their own missiles and other supplies to allow them to attack the Russian mainland with Western weapons.

He strongly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “disgusting old man.” He said that the “disgusting old man (Putin)” who keeps threatening everyone with the “red button (nuclear missile launch button)” will not be able to force anything on Ukraine.

On the same day, he held a press conference in the capital city of Kiev, emphasizing the excellence of ‘Palianitsa’. Palianitsa is the name of a traditional Ukrainian bread, and has emerged as an anti-Russian symbol since the Ukrainian War. It is a word that is difficult for Russians to pronounce, so Ukraine has used it as a kind of code to distinguish enemies.

President Zelensky has repeatedly quipped that “Russians cannot even name the weapon that attacked them” and has also signed a law banning the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
Oleksandr Kamyshin, the Minister of Strategic Industry and head of arms production, also announced on the social media ‘X’ that “after mortar drones and artillery drones, we have developed a rocket drone (Palyanytsa) capable of precision targeting.” The Times of London reported that the drone was used to attack an ammunition depot in Voronezh, southern Russia, and that unlike regular drones, it is equipped with a jet engine instead of a propeller, making it fast.

On this day, Ukraine exchanged 115 Russian soldiers captured during the Kursk Oblast offensive for 115 of its own prisoners of war through mediation by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is the first prisoner exchange since Ukraine’s occupation of Kursk Oblast.
