“A strong Ukraine is respected at the negotiating table.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that he would use all necessary means to end Russian aggression by 2025.
According to Ukraine’s state-run Ukraine Form and AFP news agency on the 31st (local time), President Zelenskyy delivered a speech to the nation and said, “I hope 2025 will be our year.”
He emphasized, “We know that peace will not be given as a gift, but we will do everything to stop Russia and end the war.”
President Zelensky said, “Next year, I and all of us must fight every day for a sufficiently strong Ukraine, because only such a Ukraine can be respected and listened to both on the battlefield and at the negotiating table.”
Also, regarding U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20, 2025, he said, “There is no doubt that the new U.S. president has the will and ability to end Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression and achieve peace.”
In his New Year’s address on the same day, President Putin did not mention the war with Ukraine, but praised the “courage” of the Russian military. “You are true heroes who made a great military effort to defend Russia,” he said.
Previously, on the 7th, President Zelenskyy met with President-elect Trump on the occasion of the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, the capital of France. “The most important thing is to guarantee peace and strong security for Ukraine,” he urged President-elect Trump.
On the 17th, President-elect Trump emphasized, “We are trying to stop the terrible war taking place in Ukraine and Russia,” and “There will be little progress.”
However, CNN analyzed that although President-elect Trump pledged to end the war in Ukraine on his first day in office, he has not yet presented a meaningful peace plan, and that Trump warned that Ukraine would receive less support from the United States after taking office.
