The 1st Japanese EP ‘PREZENT‘ will be released on January 29, 2025. This is the first time Zero Base One is releasing an EP album in Japan. Zero Base One met local fans in the form of an EP about 10 months after releasing their first Japanese single last March.
As can be seen from the album title ‘Present’, it is expected to be a special gift for Zeros (fandom name). The album contains a total of 6 songs, including 4 original Japanese songs, including ‘NOW OR NEVER’, ‘Only One Story’, ‘Firework’, and ‘HANA’. It contains two Japanese versions of the song and Korean promotional songs ‘Feel the POP’ and ‘GOOD SO BAD’. Among them, ‘Only One Story’ was selected as the latest opening song for the popular Japanese TV animation ‘Pokemon’, proving Zero Base One’s presence in the local market.
Following the release of two mini albums, the 3rd mini album and the 4th mini album, this year alone, Zero Base One is holding an overseas tour visiting 8 cities around the world, and is taking a break by announcing the release of their 1st Japanese EP ‘Present’. We are continuing our global, hard work without a break.
In particular, the popularity of Zero Base One in Japan is at syndrome level. Zero Base One’s first single became a ‘half million seller’ within a week of its debut, and with this single, it received the ‘double platinum’ certification given by the Recording Industry Association of Japan to works that have achieved cumulative shipments of more than 500,000 copies based on March shipments. It caused an explosive reaction.
In addition, Zero Base One recently swept the Oricon Weekly DVD Ranking, Oricon Weekly Blu-ray Disc Ranking, and Oricon Weekly Music DVD/Blu-ray Disc Ranking as of November 4, 2024 with a DVD containing a live Japanese fan concert. Zero Base One is the first foreign artist to win three weekly video rankings simultaneously at Oricon this year.
Meanwhile, Zero Base One will hold an overseas tour in Aichi, Japan from November 29th to December 1st and Kanagawa from the 4th to 5th, and then release their first Japanese EP ‘Present’ on January 29th next year.

Interview between Time.news Editor and Music Industry Expert
Time.news Editor: Welcome to Time.news, where we discuss the latest happenings in the world of entertainment! Today, we have a special guest, music industry expert Dr. Naomi Takeda. We’re here to talk about the highly anticipated EP ‘PREZENT’ by Zero Base One, set for release on January 29, 2025. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Takeda!
Dr. Naomi Takeda: Thank you for having me! I’m excited to discuss Zero Base One and their new project.
Editor: Zero Base One is making waves by releasing their first EP in Japan. Why do you think they chose this moment to debut an EP in the Japanese market?
Dr. Takeda: Japan has a very unique music market that values both original content and localized versions of songs. Zero Base One’s decision to release their EP now, about a year after their first Japanese single, suggests they’re looking to solidify their fanbase, known as Zeros, in this region. It’s a strategic move to engage more deeply with their audience.
Editor: The title ‘PREZENT’ has a lovely ring to it, hinting at a special connection with their fans. Can you elaborate on what this choice might signify?
Dr. Takeda: Absolutely. The title ‘PREZENT’, as in “present”, combines the notion of a gift and the idea of being in the moment. It suggests that the group is acknowledging and cherishing their fans’ support while offering something heartfelt and meaningful. It reflects a relationship built on gratitude and musical exchange.
Editor: The EP features six tracks, including four original songs. How important is it for a group like Zero Base One to include original content in a market that often favors remakes and covers?
Dr. Takeda: Original content is crucial, especially for rookie artists trying to establish their identity. While covers can be popular, original songs allow artists to showcase their creativity and authenticity. By including original tracks, Zero Base One is not only developing their unique sound but also signaling to fans that they are serious contenders in the industry.
Editor: Among the tracks included, ‘Only One Story’ is highlighted as the latest opening song. What does this signify for the group’s promotional strategy?
Dr. Takeda: Selecting ‘Only One Story’ as the opening song is a brilliant move! It sets the tone for the entire EP and gives listeners a glimpse of what to expect musically. It’s also often used to create buzz and draw attention—it’s likely they’ll perform it prominently during promotion. It’s about creating that connection and leaving a lasting first impression.
Editor: With two Japanese versions of songs and Korean promotional tracks like ‘Feel the POP’ and ‘GOOD SO BAD’, how do you see cultural blending in their music impacting reception?
Dr. Takeda: Cultural blending is key in K-pop’s global success. By incorporating both Japanese and Korean elements, Zero Base One is catering to diverse fan preferences and bridging cultural gaps. This strategy not only broadens their audience but also allows fans from different backgrounds to enjoy and relate to the music, leading to a more diverse fanbase.
Editor: This is fascinating! Do you think that the timing of their release, just months after their Japanese debut single, will help maintain momentum?
Dr. Takeda: Definitely! Releasing the EP shortly after their previous single keeps the momentum going. It shows they’re active and engaged with their fans, which is crucial for maintaining interest. In the fast-paced music industry, consistent releases can help establish a loyal following, and Zero Base One seems to be on the right track.
Editor: Thank you so much for sharing your insights today, Dr. Takeda! We’re all looking forward to hearing ‘PREZENT’ when it drops on January 29, 2025.
Dr. Takeda: Thank you! I can’t wait to see how fans respond to it!
