BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas said, Ziaur Rahman was establishing this democracy in Bangladesh for which we are fighting today. Later democracy was nurtured by Begum Khaleda Zia. He fought for this democracy all his life. But now he is suffering.

He said these things at the iftar party organized by Jatiyatabadi Jubodal at Ladies Club in Iskaton in the capital on Wednesday (April 3) afternoon.

Juba Dal President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku presided over the iftar ceremony. Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman gave a virtual speech as the chief guest under the direction of Juba Dal General Secretary Abdul Monayem Munna. BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy spoke as a special guest.

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, Ziaur Rahman rebelled against the Pakistan Army on March 27, 1971 to establish the people’s desire. He called for a war of independence. From his call we participated in the war of independence. Ziaur Rahman was not supposed to come that day. Those who were supposed to come, who were supposed to guide the people, did not come. For the second time on November 7, 1975, the people and the army of Bangladesh came together and freed Ziaur Rahman from captivity and entrusted the responsibility of the country. Ziaur Rahman did not come to power in a military coup on November 7. He came at the call of common people to protect freedom. He was active in fulfilling the aspirations of the people who brought Ziaur Rahman into politics.

He also said that Ziaur Rahman formed a political party to protect democracy and freedom. Jubo Dal was established as the first organ of that party.

At the beginning of the iftar party, the top leadership of the youth party extended floral greetings to the newly released leaders. Besides, financial assistance is distributed to the families of the martyrs, missing and crippled activists in the movement for the restoration of democracy.

BNP Vice Chairman Zainul Abdin Farooq, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Krishak Dal President Shahidul Islam Babul, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and others also spoke at the Iftar party.
