/ French football legend and former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has decided on his position on coaching the Algerian national team, succeeding Djamel Belmadi.

Last Wednesday, President of the Algerian Football Federation, Walid Sadi, announced Belmadi’s departure from the first team following the sudden exit from the first round of the Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire.

According to the French newspaper L’Equipe, immediately after the announcement of Belmadi’s departure, the Algerian Football Federation began an active search for a new coach.

Frenchman Herve Renard, Bosnian Vahid Halilhodzic and other coaches (Petkovic, Sampaoli…) were among the names studied by football officials in Algeria to supervise the “Desert Warriors.”

But according to L’Equipe, the new strongman in the Algerian Football Association, Walid Sadi, immediately thought of Zinedine Zidane (51 years old), whose roots go back to Algeria.

The French newspaper added that Zidane expressed great happiness at being nominated to coach the national team of his parents’ country, but he rejected the Algerian offer.

She also pointed out that Zidane, who has not been associated with any team since his departure from coaching Real Madrid in 2021, rejected two other offers to coach Brazil and the United States, and still dreams of leading the French national team.
