Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché) won stage 6 of the Critérium du Dauphiné, 170.2km between Nantua and the Crest-Voland hilltop finish. The German crowned the escape on a day that the favorites let go.

It took the breakaway to form up to almost 60 km. After several skirmishes that were neutralized by the peloton, a large group of riders finally got the approval of the lot and went ahead. Of the 14 runners in the lead, M. Jorgenson was the special guest at the front.

In accordance with the situation, Jumbo-Visma let go and disengaged from the hunt, so other teams had to react and both Uno-X and DSM commanded the peloton and contained the breakaway for 3 minutes all day.

With 30 km to go, taking advantage of the fact that the distance with the breakaway had been reduced to 2 minutes, Victor Campenaerts jumped out of the pack looking to connect with the head of the race, however his adventure would be neutralized shortly.

The leading group lost members on the climb to Col de Aravis (Jorgenson and Trentin) at the same time that Trek helped Uno-X in the peloton and reduced the lead to 1:20. In the lead were Castroviejo, G. Zimmerman and Burgaudeau, at 30 “the chasing group was made up of Nans Peters, Bagioli, Trentin and Gugliemi.

In the last ten kilometers the head improved its income and began the last climb at 1:40, which was enough income for the victory to remain on the run. From behind in the group of favorites Trek pushed on the climb and separated the wheat from the chaff, however Jumbo returned to command the climb.

With 2 km to go, Zimmerman launched a strong attack to leave his rivals behind, which allowed him to leave, but Burgadeau managed to chase him down, although at the finish line the German had the strength to win the stage. Castroviejo was third.

In the final stretch for the group, Vingegaard launched an attack without further danger as all the favorites were able to follow him and enter the finish line together.
