The city of Zliten has recently witnessed repeated incidents of ammunition depot explosions, which has raised concerns among citizens and the municipal council.

The municipality said in a statement: “The Municipal Council in Zliten followed up on the recent explosion incident in the city, and the Municipal Council thanks God for the safety of everyone and the absence of human losses, with losses limited to material losses.”

The municipality statement added: “While we express our deep concern about the recurrence of explosions in ammunition depots inside the city in the past period, the municipal council calls on the security and military authorities to quickly deal with ammunition depots and the like, so that the recognized standards in this regard are applied, in terms of keeping them away from populated areas and providing security and safety requirements in those places. The municipal council also stresses the need to open an urgent investigation by the competent authorities to determine the causes of this phenomenon, which has been repeated more than once, and to take the necessary measures to prevent it from happening again.”

The Municipal Council extended its thanks to “all the parties that dealt with the repercussions of this explosion with professionalism and speed and contributed to reducing the losses, and thanked the citizens of the city for their solidarity and assistance to those parties.”
